Rainbow Six Siege X Servers Hacked: Ubisoft Responds with Server Shutdown

An unexpected turn of events has left Rainbow Six Siege X players in a state of chaos as hackers infiltrated the game’s servers, causing widespread issues that have led to a complete shutdown of the system. The incident, which has been described as an “unplanned outage” by Ubisoft, has left players reeling after billions of in-game currency and unbans were distributed due to the security breach.

The trouble began on December 26th when players started noticing an influx of Renown, the game’s currency, into their accounts. This anomaly was quickly followed by suspensions from Ubisoft’s anti-cheat software and other unusual occurrences such as mysterious messages and rare skins appearing in inventories.

Ubisoft swiftly took action by shutting down all servers across all platforms and initiating a rollback process to address the unauthorized credits. They reassured players that those who had spent the illicit currency would not face bans, but steps were being taken to rectify the situation and maintain the game’s integrity. Additionally, Ubisoft clarified that the ban ticker, which had been disabled in a previous update, was reactivated but would be removed again, emphasizing that any bans were unrelated to the recent incident.

Currently, a rollback is in progress to restore account balances to their pre-hack state, followed by rigorous quality control checks to ensure the accounts’ integrity and the effectiveness of the changes. Ubisoft’s priority is to restore normal gameplay as soon as possible, though the timing of the resolution remains uncertain.

In June of this year, Ubisoft revamped the long-standing tactical shooter, rebranding it as Rainbow Six Siege X and implementing various technical enhancements. The game also transitioned to a free-to-play model, attracting a larger player base.

Notably, Rainbow Six Siege X is one of three titles that have been transferred to a separate entity within Ubisoft, alongside Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, signifying the game’s significance within the company’s portfolio.
