Nvidia reveals DLSS 4.5 with anti-aliasing upgrades and a dynamic, if slightly mad, 6x frame gen mode

New Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Upscaler Promises Enhanced Graphics Performance

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas has brought some exciting news for GeForce users. Nvidia has announced the launch of Nvidia DLSS 4.5, a new version of their Deep Learning Super Sampling technology that aims to improve image quality and performance on RTX GPUs.

The Super Resolution component of DLSS 4.5 is a second-generation upgrade to the previous ‘Transformer’ upscaling model introduced with DLSS 4. This new version boasts “greater contextual awareness” of the images being upscaled, resulting in higher-resolution frames with sharper details, reduced ghosting on moving images, and smoother anti-aliasing.

The new DLSS version is compatible with over 400 games through the Nvidia App’s DLSS Override tool and works on all current RTX GPUs, not just the latest RTX 50 series.

DLSS 4.5 introduces Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, a feature that allows users to set a target FPS and generates AI-hewn frames to meet that target. This feature, set to launch in Spring 2026, offers more flexibility in frame generation compared to the previous version.

While generative AI technology has faced challenges in other areas, DLSS and its AMD counterpart FSR have shown promise in enhancing gaming performance. DLSS operates by training on a single supercomputer and generating frames on the user’s PC, providing improved image quality without significant input lag.

However, the increase in generated frames through DLSS may impact the overall responsiveness of the game, especially with higher multipliers like 6x. Users should consider their system’s performance before engaging in high frame generation settings.
