HItman: World of Assassination is getting cross-progression for its fifth birthday

IO Interactive Announces Cross-Progression Update for Hitman World of Assassination Trilogy

After five years since the release of Hitman 3, IO Interactive has unveiled a significant update for their World of Assassination trilogy. Alongside the revamped IOI Account system, players can now enjoy cross-progression in Hitman WOA, allowing them to seamlessly transfer their progress between different platforms and storefronts.

Set to go live on February 3rd, enabling cross-progression will require users to link their platforms to their IOI Account and designate one platform profile as their primary account. All other linked platforms will then synchronize with the primary account instead of merging progress and achievements. While it may be disappointing that progress cannot be merged, this decision helps prevent potential issues.

Shared progression data across platforms includes:

  • Experience
  • Player Level
  • Challenges
  • Location Mastery
  • Unlocks and Inventory
  • Achievements/Trophies
  • Freelancer Mode Progression
  • Campaign Story Progress

Not shared between platforms are purchases (game license, DLC license, and DLC-based unlocks), leaderboard scores, and level saves. This means that DLC levels cannot be accessed on a system where they have not been purchased.

Furthermore, the progression carryover from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3 will cease on February 3rd. This feature was introduced to import Hitman 2 game progression into its sequel, but with Hitman 2 being considerably older compared to WOA, IO Interactive has decided to end this service to maintain data integrity and prevent conflicts. Players have a two-week window to carry out the progression transfer.

For more information on the implications of these changes, refer to IO Interactive’s FAQ section.

Overall, this update is a positive development. While it may be disappointing that progression cannot be merged, the ability to carry progress across platforms is a welcome addition for players. Hitman 3, released in early 2021, marked the conclusion of IO Interactive’s ambitious trilogy. The game has been praised for its evolution over the years, offering a rewarding conclusion to a unique video game franchise.
