Google Search AI Mode can use Gmail and Photos to get to know you

Google Introduces Personal Intelligence to Enhance AI Mode Search Results

Google has recently unveiled a new feature called Personal Intelligence, aimed at refining the AI Mode search experience by offering personalized responses. This cutting-edge technology allows the AI chatbot to delve into your Gmail and Google Photos accounts to tailor search results based on your interests and daily activities. Unlike traditional methods that require manual input of preferences, Personal Intelligence gathers information from your emails and photos to provide a more tailored and efficient search experience.

An example of the capabilities of Personal Intelligence includes the ability of AI Mode to suggest travel itineraries by analyzing hotel bookings in Gmail and holiday pictures in Google Photos. Furthermore, if you frequently take selfies with ice cream, the chatbot can recommend nearby ice cream parlors. Additionally, when using AI Mode for online shopping, it can prioritize products from brands you have previously purchased or shown interest in.

Starting today, eligible subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra can opt in to the Gmail and Google Photos connections for AI Mode. This update is currently being rolled out in the US as a feature in Google Labs and is exclusively available for personal Google accounts. The introduction of Personal Intelligence follows its integration into Gemini AI, which can also access Search and YouTube history in addition to Gmail and Photos.

Emphasizing user privacy, Google Search VP Robby Stein assures that AI Mode, powered by the advanced Gemini 3 model, does not directly access or train on personal Gmail inboxes or Google Photos libraries. The training process is limited to specific prompts within AI Mode and the model’s responses, ensuring functionality improvement over time without compromising user privacy.

While the Personal Intelligence feature proves to be beneficial, internal testing has revealed that occasional errors may occur. In such cases, AI Mode users have the option to correct unsuitable recommendations by providing feedback through follow-up responses or indicating dissatisfaction with a “thumbs down.”
