Apple Watch: Real-life Stories of Lifesaving Technology
The Apple Watch has been credited with saving numerous lives over the years, with stories dating back to 2015 and continuing into 2025. While these tales are often shared by local news outlets, Apple itself has recently started showcasing these remarkable stories on its official YouTube channel.
Recently, two new videos have surfaced under the tagline “True Apple Watch Story,” hinting at a potential new series. The first video, released on July 21, recounts the experience of Phil, who was involved in a mountain bike accident and rendered unconscious. The Fall Detection feature on his Apple Watch alerted his wife and emergency services, potentially saving his life.
Phil’s story mirrors that of Bob Burdett in 2019, where his Apple Watch played a crucial role in getting him the necessary help while unconscious. His son was able to track his location and find the hospital he was taken to.
A second video, titled “Connor’s True Apple Watch Story,” was released a month later, showcasing a triathlete who used the ECG app to detect atrial fibrillation, leading to the discovery of a serious heart condition that required surgery.
While these are the only two standalone videos on Apple’s main YouTube channel, similar stories have been shared by Apple Australia in the past. These narratives highlight how Apple Watch features like Emergency SOS and health monitoring apps have made a significant impact on users’ lives.
Although Apple has only showcased a few stories directly, there are countless more instances where the Apple Watch has alerted users to potential health issues. From detecting heart conditions to warning about blood clots and abnormal vitals, the device has prompted many individuals to seek medical attention and uncover previously unknown health concerns.
While the future of the “True Apple Watch Story” series remains uncertain, the release of two videos in quick succession has sparked speculation about potential monthly installments. With the anticipated launch of the Apple Watch Series 12 in September, it will be interesting to see what new stories emerge and how the device continues to impact and potentially save lives.
