Black Ops and Black Ops II: Enhanced Editions Coming to PS4 and PS5
Treyarch Announces Port of Original Call of Duty: Black Ops Games to PlayStation 4 and 5
In a rather low-key announcement via Twitter, Treyarch has revealed that the classic Call of Duty titles, Black Ops and Black Ops II, will be making their way to PlayStation 4 and 5.
Scheduled for release in July, these ports will include the full experience of single-player campaigns, multiplayer modes, and the beloved Zombies mode. While the pricing details remain undisclosed at this time.
Despite Microsoft’s ownership of Activision, the decision to bring these games exclusively to PlayStation consoles is notable. These are not remakes or remasters but straightforward ports, indicating minimal enhancements and unchanged online multiplayer capabilities.
For Xbox players, Black Ops and Black Ops II are already accessible through backward compatibility, albeit without any enhancements. Running at base resolutions of 1040×600 and 880×720 respectively, these titles offer a nostalgic experience on Xbox consoles.
Considering the higher resolutions expected on PlayStation 4 and 5, this move could potentially give Sony an advantage over Microsoft in terms of visual fidelity. It raises questions about the ongoing battle for exclusive titles between the two console giants.
Despite the peculiar circumstances surrounding this announcement, Black Ops and Black Ops II remain fan favorites within the Call of Duty franchise. With their intricate storylines and enduring popularity, the prospect of revisiting these classics on modern PlayStation consoles is undoubtedly enticing.
It’ll be interesting to see how these titles fare on the current-gen PlayStation hardware, offering a fresh perspective on familiar gameplay mechanics and narratives.
Regardless of the platform rivalry, the allure of diving back into the Black Ops universe is undeniable, making the upcoming ports a highly anticipated release for fans of the series.
