BMW M HYBRID V8 WIN SPA FRANCOCHAMPS 00

BMW Motorsport Triumphs at Spa-Francorchamps

BMW Motorsport had a dream start to their Le Mans preparations at Spa-Francorchamps, with Team WRT securing a dominant 1-2 finish in the Hypercar class at the 6 Hours of Spa. The team outperformed top competitors such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Toyota, Peugeot, Cadillac, Alpine, and Genesis, marking a significant milestone for the BMW M Hybrid V8 in the FIA World Endurance Championship. The #20 car, driven by Robin Frijns, Rene Rast, and Sheldon van der Linde, claimed victory, while the #15 car, piloted by Kevin Magnussen, Raffaele Marciello, and Dries Vanthoor, finished a close second, setting the stage for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Strategic Brilliance Leads #20 to Victory

The race, witnessed by over 100,000 spectators, saw three safety car periods that tested the teams’ strategic acumen. Team WRT’s #20 crew demonstrated exceptional planning and execution, capitalizing on the safety car interventions to gain a crucial edge over their rivals. Despite facing stiff competition, the #15 car showcased a strong performance, securing a well-deserved second place in the fiercely competitive Hypercar class.

Challenges for the GT3 Cars

On a less positive note, the M4 GT3 Evo entries of Team WRT faced difficulties during the race, finishing 11th and 14th in class. The #32 car’s incident with a Porsche and a Ferrari further compounded their woes, highlighting the unpredictable nature of endurance racing.

Remembering Alex Zanardi

In a touching tribute, both BMW hypercars featured a commemoration to the late Alex Zanardi, a beloved figure in the racing world. Zanardi’s recent passing deeply impacted the motorsport community, and BMW’s gesture at Spa-Francorchamps served as a poignant farewell to a true champion.
