7 Series
BMW launched its updated flagship sedan at a historic Budapest theater for a special premiere, featuring the V8-powered Concept Speedtop.
Article Summary
- BMW revealed the refreshed 7 Series in Hungary with an exclusive premiere at the State Opera House.
- This is not the first time the flagship sedan has been showcased at the historic opera house in Budapest.
- BMW also introduced the V8-powered Concept Speedtop, a limited-production shooting brake with only 70 units produced, all already sold out.
BMW introduced its flagship luxury sedan at the Hungarian State Opera House in a special premiere that included the new 7 Series and the exclusive Concept Speedtop. The event, attended by 120 guests, marked the first time Hungarians got to see the updated flagship sedan alongside the unique shooting brake.
The venue perfectly suited BMW’s luxurious sedan, which combines a more imposing exterior with technology inspired by the Neue Klasse. The latest 7 Series offers a fresh interpretation of Munich’s luxury offerings, blending traditional combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric powertrains in one vehicle.
BMW added a theatrical touch to the event, with opera singer Kinga Kriszta, pianist Klára Jean, and a customized audiovisual presentation accompanying the two cars. The automaker also used the occasion to support a UNICEF program for children in need. This is not the first time BMW has showcased its flagship sedan on an opera stage.
The 7 Series G70 Returns To The Opera
In November 2022, the i7 was featured at the same Budapest venue for a photo shoot, showcasing a unique contrast between modern luxury and the 19th-century architecture of the building. Now, nearly four years later, BMW returned to the same venue with the extensively updated luxury sedan, indicating the automaker’s affinity for presenting its top-of-the-line model where culture and automotive luxury converge.
Customization remains a significant attraction for the 7 Series. BMW offers over 500 exterior paint options and color combinations, along with approximately 700 equipment and material choices for the interior. For those seeking exclusivity, the Individual Manufaktur program allows customers to create a truly one-of-a-kind vehicle.

The Speedtop Is Already Sold Out
Unlike the 7 Series, which can be produced in any quantity, the Speedtop has a strict production limit. With only 70 units worldwide, all already sold, those interested in the V8-powered shooting brake are out of luck unless a current owner decides to sell. The exclusivity of the Speedtop is guaranteed from the start, surpassing even that of the 7 Series.
While both vehicles bear the BMW emblem, the 7 Series and Speedtop are vastly different, not just in body style. The flagship sedan embraces BMW’s latest design elements with a commanding front end, illuminated kidney grille, and sleek headlights, giving it a futuristic look.
The Speedtop Embodies Modern BMW Design
On the other hand, the Speedtop features a long hood, a tapered roof, a slender rear, and a more elegant interpretation of the kidney grille. Its two-tone paint and fluid lines evoke classic grand tourers rather than the high-tech luxury feel of the 7 Series. One aims to make a statement through presence, while the other relies on elegance and rarity to turn heads.
Perhaps BMW’s regular production cars could draw inspiration from the Speedtop. The concept demonstrates that the BMW emblem can exude elegance without oversized grilles or busy styling. While a limited-run shooting brake has different requirements than mass-produced models, the Speedtop advocates for cleaner lines and better proportions. Hopefully, some of this design restraint will influence future models that are more accessible to the general public.
