Enhancing Siri with Third-Party AI Models for Text Interpretation
Apple is set to take a more open approach to AI in iOS 27, surprising many with plans to allow users to choose from a variety of third-party AI models. This move goes beyond just improving Siri, the voice assistant that has long been criticized. According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, users will soon have the option to select third-party AI models for tasks like text and image generation and editing.
Multiple third-party AI models will be available for various tasks in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 this fall. This change, as shared by insiders, aims to offer users more flexibility and choice in their AI interactions.

This development follows Apple’s previous integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT as an optional extension to Siri in iOS 18.2. Now, with iOS 27, Apple is expanding this concept to include a range of AI tools, such as Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, alongside ChatGPT.
According to Gurman’s sources, these third-party AI models will function as extensions within Apple’s ecosystem, providing enhanced capabilities beyond Siri’s existing features.
Users will have the ability to choose which AI model handles specific tasks, allowing for a more customized AI experience. This integration is expected to be seamless, with deep-level interactions between Apple’s platform and third-party services.
While Siri will remain a central feature, users can opt to utilize other AI models for different tasks, all within the Siri interface. This flexibility extends to voice options, enabling users to differentiate between AI responses based on the chosen model.
Apple is also taking steps to ensure transparency and user safety by disclaiming any responsibility for content generated by third-party AI models. Additionally, the company plans to showcase compatible AI apps in the App Store, positioning them as alternatives rather than replacements for Siri.
