God of War Laufey Set to Release in 2027

Studio Santa Monica has inadvertently revealed that the highly anticipated game God of War Laufey is scheduled for release in 2027. This confirmation came after the studio announced that the game will be available on disc.

The studio made a straightforward statement on social media, confirming that God of War Laufey will indeed be available on disc. With Sony ceasing production of discs for games launching in January 2028 or later, it is clear that the spin-off story must hit the shelves before this deadline.

God of War Laufey was unveiled during the State of Play showcase for Summer Game Fest. The game branches off from the opening scenes of the 2018 God of War, following Kratos as he cremates his deceased wife.

In this new installment, Faye, also known as Laufey the Just and portrayed by Deborah Ann Woll, awakens in a different realm called the Everywhen. This realm serves as an afterlife for gods from various mythologies. Faye encounters Sekmet from the Egyptian pantheon and Begtse, the Tibetan god of war, who imprison her. She befriends a talking gelatinous cube named Phranque (voiced by Jack Quaid) and a sword called Rue (voiced by Perlina Lau). Together, they help Faye rediscover her powers and escape captivity, wielding a powerful sword that unlocks immense abilities within this unique setting.

With the digital future of PlayStation games looming, many developers are hurriedly confirming that their games will still be released on disc. This trend extends even to PlayStation’s own studios, highlighting the changing landscape of the gaming industry.
