Google Pixel 6 Series: Upgraded with Latest Software Update

Google has officially announced that the first Pixel phones equipped with the company’s Tensor processor will no longer receive major Android updates. This marks the end of a significant era for these devices.

Support Ending After Five Years

Initially, Google promised three years of Android updates for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro when they were unveiled in October 2021. However, the company later extended this support to a total of five years, which will come to an end in October 2026.

With the final version of Android 17 QPR2 scheduled for release after October 2026, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will no longer be included in the update schedule. Even the beta version that has been released will not be available for these devices.

While many users may have anticipated this end, it signifies a significant moment as it is the first time a smartphone featuring Google’s Tensor chip has reached the end of its official update period.

Pixel 6a Continues to Receive Support

It is important to note that the Pixel 6a is not affected by this change. This mid-range phone, released in 2022, will continue to receive updates until June 2027. Despite using the same Tensor G1 processor as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, it remains part of the beta program for now.

Additionally, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will also continue to receive support. Google has committed to providing updates for devices from the Pixel 8 onwards for a longer period, guaranteeing seven years of updates.
