Decoding the Google Pixel Watch 5 LTE Model: Clearing up the Confusion
Anticipation is building for the upcoming release of the Pixel Watch 5, which has already been the subject of several leaks, including one rumor of a discovery at the bottom of the sea.
The latest development is that Google has submitted its flagship smartwatch to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), but there is some confusion surrounding the details.
The device has been listed under model numbers G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R, which were previously confirmed via a BIS listing, all categorized as ‘wireless devices.’
Interestingly, all models are equipped with LTE (4G) as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, indicating that there may not be a more affordable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-only option available.
Despite speculation about the potential release of a Pro or Ultra model alongside the Pixel Watch 5, it appears that all models will share the same internal components. The presence of a 4G modem in all models suggests that the feature may be disabled at the firmware level before leaving the factory.
While some may find this decision to be surprising, it is likely a strategic choice to streamline production and offer a consistent user experience across all models.
There’s bigger news here
The Pixel Watch 5’s lack of 5G connectivity sets it apart from competitors like the Apple Watch Series 11, which are expected to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite chipset with 5G capabilities.
Despite advancements in technology, the decision to stick with 4G LTE for the Pixel Watch 5 and the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 series may be attributed to rising costs and market demand. Upgrading to 5G may not provide significant benefits to the majority of users, making it a less practical investment for manufacturers.
The Pixel Watch 5 is scheduled to launch in August alongside the Pixel 11 phones, while Samsung is gearing up to reveal the Galaxy Watch 9 series and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 at its rumored Unpacked event on July 22.
