Google Pixel Watch 5: Breaking the Mold with a Price Increase

RAMaggedon appears to be affecting the Pixel Watch 5, with reports of significant price hikes.

Just after leaks about substantial price increases for the Pixel 11, Dealabs, a French site, has shared details on Google’s upcoming smartwatch, and the news isn’t favorable.

All versions of the Pixel Watch 5 are expected to be more expensive than their predecessors. The base model (41mm, without LTE) is projected to cost £369/$399 at launch, a £20/$50 increase from the equivalent Pixel Watch 4 model.

This price increase is particularly notable for US customers, as it marks the first time the base model has seen a price hike. Previous iterations, including the original Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4, all started at $349. In the UK, except for the £339 original, every Pixel Watch has been priced at £349.

The price increases vary for the other models. The 45mm non-LTE version remains the same in the UK and only $20 more in the US, while the 45mm LTE model sees a £50/$80 increase. The most significant price hikes are reserved for the 41mm LTE model, which could cost £70/$100 more than its predecessor.

While these figures are not official, Dealabs has a reliable track record with Pixel-related news, indicating that the information is likely accurate.

New color addition

There is a silver lining for Pixel Watch 5 enthusiasts – the introduction of a new color option.

Reports from both Dealabs and Dutch site Nieuwe Mobiel suggest that the watch will come in four colors: ‘Natural Silver’, ‘Dark Anthracite’, ‘Warm Gold’, and ‘Pyrite’.

While the first three colors are variations of existing Pixel Watch 4 colors, ‘Pyrite’ is a new addition. However, there is a discrepancy between Dealabs and Nieuwe Mobiel regarding the actual shade of ‘Pyrite’. Dealabs suggests it will be green, while Nieuwe Mobiel’s mockup leans towards a tan hue.

Launch on the horizon

Dealabs predicted an August 11 launch date, which was one day off from Google’s confirmed event on August 12. The suggested shipping date of August 20 might still hold true.

While there is no official mention of smartwatches, it is highly anticipated that the Pixel Watch 5 will debut alongside the Pixel 11 series at the event.
