Kingfish: Building a Roguelite Empire
Introducing Kingfish: A Co-op Roguelite City Builder Game
FireVolt, an indie developer, has recently unveiled their latest project, Kingfish. This unique game combines elements of co-op gameplay, roguelite mechanics, and city-building, all set in a fantastical world where players manage and defend a kingdom atop a colossal ancient creature.
Kingfish is currently in development for Windows PC via Steam, as well as undisclosed console platforms, with an expected release date in 2027.
In a statement, FireVolt shared their vision for the game, stating, “The King and Fish both have incomplete information, and it creates this great dynamic of working together despite having completely different perspectives on the same situation. We wanted to bring a fresh take on city builders, blending real-time strategy and third-person action in an asymmetric cooperative experience.”
Game Overview:
Kingfish is a two-player roguelite cooperative city-builder that challenges players to manage and protect a kingdom situated on the back of an ancient leviathan.
Players can assume one of two roles within this vast oceanic world filled with dangers. One player takes control from above, managing resources, constructing buildings, and providing battlefield support, all while controlling the giant fish that serves as the kingdom’s land. The other player operates on the ground, guiding the young King in real-time combat, gathering resources, and confronting enemies.
To succeed, players must coordinate their actions effectively. The King manages the day-to-day life of the kingdom, ensuring villagers are cared for and preparing for battles. Meanwhile, the Fish player oversees the bigger picture, monitoring threats, managing resources, and providing strategic support.
Each playthrough offers a new city to build, new characters to meet, and new challenges to overcome. Returning villagers provide unique perks to aid the King and Fish in their endeavors.
This innovative blend of cooperative gameplay, city-building mechanics, and roguelite elements promises a fresh and engaging experience for players. Stay tuned for more updates on Kingfish as development progresses!
