2026 Leapmotor B05 prices: Chinese brand's new small electric hatch undercuts Toyota Corolla

The Leapmotor B05: A Game-Changer in the Australian Market

The Leapmotor B05 is set to make a significant impact in the Australian automotive market as the Chinese brand’s most affordable model, even undercutting popular small hatchbacks like the Toyota Corolla. What sets it apart is that it is an all-electric vehicle, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional combustion engine cars.

Scheduled to arrive in Australia in late August, the B05 range will kick off with the Style variant priced at $35,990 drive-away, followed by the Design Long Range model at $39,990 drive-away. These launch prices are exclusive to vehicles purchased and delivered between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

In comparison to its competitors, the B05 offers a compelling value proposition. For example, the B10 electric SUV from Leapmotor starts at $35,888 before on-road costs, while the Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport is priced at $32,110 plus on-roads. The B05’s pricing makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers looking to transition to electric vehicles.

Key Features and Specifications

The Leapmotor B05 boasts a 50:50 weight distribution and underwent chassis tuning in Italy in collaboration with Stellantis, a renowned automotive group. This collaboration underscores Leapmotor’s commitment to delivering a high-quality driving experience.

Available in two variants – Style and Design LR – the B05 features a 160kW electric motor and offers impressive range figures. The Style variant comes with a 56.2kWh battery providing 401km of WLTP range, while the Design LR variant boasts a larger 67.1kWh battery offering 482km of range.

Both variants support 11kW AC charging and offer fast DC charging capabilities at rates of 156kW and 174kW. This ensures that drivers can recharge their vehicles quickly and efficiently, making electric vehicle ownership more convenient.

For added luxury, the Design LR variant comes equipped with heated, power-adjustable front seats, ‘TechnoLeather’ upholstery, a premium 12-speaker sound system, and a panoramic glass roof with a power sunshade. These features enhance the overall driving experience and comfort for occupants.

Expanding Leapmotor’s Lineup

With the introduction of the B05, Leapmotor now offers a diverse lineup in Australia, complementing its existing models such as the B10 and C10 SUVs. While these models are available with electric or extended-range electric powertrains, the B05 stands out as a fully electric option, catering to the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions.

Looking ahead, Leapmotor is considering the development of an EREV version of the B05, further expanding its range of offerings and catering to a wider range of consumer preferences.
