Increased screen time among children and adolescents is associated with a higher risk of exposure to inappropriate or harmful content, as well as potential health issues such as sleep disturbances, weight gain, mood changes, and negative self-image.

In today’s fast-paced world, where parents are often overworked and stressed, screens can easily become the default babysitter. Juggling work, household responsibilities, and childcare expenses can leave little time for actively managing parental controls on devices like iPhones and iPads.

While the upcoming iOS 27 promises improvements in parental control features, parents can still take simple steps to reduce the allure of screens for their children. One such tip is to enable the grayscale feature on Apple devices, which removes vibrant colors that trigger dopamine responses in the brain and make screens more appealing.

To activate grayscale on an iPad or iPhone:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Scroll down to Accessibility and select it.
3. Tap Display & Text Size.
4. Choose Color Filters.
5. Toggle the Color Filters slider on.
6. Select Grayscale.
7. Adjust the Intensity slider to eliminate or reduce color saturation.

While grayscale may not completely eliminate screen time battles, it can make devices less visually stimulating for children. It’s important to note that grayscale is just one trick and should be complemented with proper parental controls and safety features to ensure a safe and balanced screen time experience for children.
