JBS Dev: On imperfect data and the AI last mile – from model capability to cost sustainability

The Truth About Working with Generative and Agentic AI Systems

Joe Rose, the president of JBS Dev, a strategic technology provider, debunked a common myth about working with generative and agentic AI systems. According to Rose, many believe that data must be flawless before engaging in such work, but he clarified that this is not the case.

An article on AI Fieldbook highlighted the misconception that large data lakes and extensive data transformation programs are necessary for these tasks. Rose emphasized that current tools are capable of handling imperfect data efficiently, allowing AI systems to comprehend incomplete information.

Utilizing available tools is crucial, with proper safeguards in place, to take advantage of the capabilities of AI systems. Despite the unpredictability of models, human intervention is essential to address errors in output. Resilience in handling textual or categorical data is crucial, as these systems do not operate on a “set it and forget it” basis.

Rose shared a case study from the medical sector where AI was used to migrate to a new billing system despite mixed data formats. The AI successfully extracted clean data from various sources, demonstrating the power of agentic approaches in data processing.

He emphasized the incremental nature of automation, starting from a low percentage and gradually increasing with time. Rose foresees future discussions focusing on the cost-effectiveness and portability of AI models, shifting away from radical advancements in model capabilities.

At AI & Big Data Expo, Rose will advocate for self-driven AI implementation over relying on SaaS vendors. He believes that cloud platforms offer the necessary tools for implementing agentic workloads without additional software licenses or training requirements.
