Pokémon Go: Robbing iPhones and Winning Big at the Casino
Apple-related crime stories continue to make headlines, as individuals find themselves on the wrong side of the law in pursuit of iPhones, iPads, and even Apple Watches. From stolen devices in line for Pokémon cards to thefts in casinos and former workplaces, these incidents shed light on the lengths some will go to for Apple products.
One such incident occurred at a West Hollywood Best Buy, where a dedicated Pokémon fan had his iPhone stolen after waiting in line for close to 40 hours for the new Pokémon 30th anniversary trading card release. Despite the theft, the device was tracked and recovered, allowing the victim to reclaim his prized possession. The man, who had been eagerly anticipating the release, declined to press charges against the thief, who had apparently dropped the iPhone after taking it.
In Nevada, a man is being sought for stealing an iPhone from a customer at a Nugget Casino. The alleged thief, last seen wearing distinctive clothing, made off with the device on August 17. Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect, offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, in Hialeah, Florida, a disgruntled former employee stole 30 iPads valued at $12,000 from his former workplace shortly after being fired. The theft, which occurred on September 4, was captured on surveillance video, leading to the arrest of the culprit. The man, identified as Ariel Galindo, faces charges of burglary and grand theft for his actions.
In a case that involved high-tech sleuthing, an Apple Watch played a crucial role in helping railway police in India apprehend members of a diamond theft gang. The device, contained in a stolen bag of jewelry, allowed investigators to track the location of the thieves on a moving train. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the theft, with police still searching for additional accomplices.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the value and allure of Apple products, as well as the lengths some individuals will go to in pursuit of them. Whether waiting in line for a coveted release or resorting to theft, these stories highlight the ongoing battle against Apple-related crime.
