Star Wars Eclipse "literally cannot be finished" if layoffs go through, its devs reportedly say

French Video Game Union Calls for Strike at Quantic Dream Studio

Earlier this week, the French video game union STJV initiated a national industry strike with a picket line at Quantic Dream’s physical studio, raising concerns about potential layoffs affecting 115 jobs due to an internal reorganization.

According to Gamekult, a developer working on the studio’s upcoming game, Star Wars Eclipse, expressed that the strike aims to safeguard the project rather than sabotage it. The developer, known as Jules, emphasized the importance of retaining the at-risk staff members to ensure the game’s successful development.

The strike coincided with a visit from a representative of Lucasfilm Games to assess the progress of Star Wars Eclipse. Another developer, named Théo, highlighted the critical role of the 115 employees facing layoffs, stating that their absence would significantly impede the game’s completion and result in lost production time.

Star Wars Eclipse, announced in 2021, promises an immersive experience allowing players to embody various characters during the High Republic era. The game’s setting offers a glimpse into a time when the Jedi Order flourished, contrasting with their portrayal in the film series.

Quantic Dream, previously under scrutiny for alleged abusive working conditions, faces uncertainty regarding the studio’s current environment amidst reports of impending layoffs. The developer community’s call to retain the at-risk employees underscores the importance of sustainable industry practices and employee well-being.
