In the latest installment of the iDrop News Apple Crime Log, we have some intriguing stories to share. From a daring escape by a pair of AirPods to the use of an AirTag in catching a criminal, the world of Apple technology is full of surprises.
A Miraculous Escape for AirPods
A couple in Milwaukee found themselves in a unique situation when their stolen car was tracked using a pair of Apple AirPods left inside. Teon Thomas and Gina Hughlett reported the theft after Teon’s car was taken following a tire blowout. They managed to follow the AirPods’ signal to a local scrapyard, where they discovered the car had been crushed. Fortunately, the AirPods survived the ordeal.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a tow truck driver, Derrick D. Hutchins, who was charged with felony theft for destroying the vehicle. The presence of the AirPods in the car played a crucial role in the recovery process.
AirTag Aids in Criminal Capture
Police in Pittsburgh successfully apprehended a man accused of sexual assault and burglary with the help of an AirTag stolen from the victim’s home. The stolen AirTag, along with some cash, led police to the suspect, Charles Willis, who was found in a nearby location. Willis confessed to the assault but denied stealing the AirTag, resulting in charges of burglary and assault.
Neighbors speculated on Willis’ motive for taking the AirTag, with some suggesting he may not have known its purpose. The incident highlights the role of technology in aiding law enforcement.
