Activision Announces Open Beta Dates for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Activision has revealed the open beta schedule for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set to take place in the latter half of August. The announcement comes on the heels of a highly anticipated Call of Duty NEXT stream scheduled for August 21st, promising more insights into the upcoming game.
The first beta weekend is exclusive to players who pre-order the game on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Running from August 21st to August 25th, this period will not include pre-orders for Switch 2, which will be available after this initial weekend.
The second beta weekend, from August 28th to September 1st, is open to all players without the need for pre-orders. This phase will be accessible on PS5, XSX|S, PC, and Switch 2.
One of the highlights of the beta testing will be the performance evaluation on the latest Nintendo console, Switch 2. This is especially noteworthy as Activision is discontinuing support for the previous generation PS4, which is considered to be on par with the Switch 2 in terms of hardware capabilities.
The multiplayer open beta will showcase various Operations and 19 weapons across different game modes, ranging from small 3v3 skirmishes to large-scale tactical battles. Players can look forward to familiar modes like Search & Destroy and the new Kill Block mode, along with the challenging Training Mobility Course.
Notably absent from this testing phase is the DMZ extraction shooter mode, a new addition to the series that has yet to be mentioned.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is slated for release on October 23, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will not support legacy consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, which are also losing Warzone support. The upcoming installment will be set in Korea, featuring the iconic character Captain Price with the tagline “No line holds forever.”
