Mazda to Continue CX-3 Nameplate with Second Generation Set to Enter Production Next Year

Mazda has announced that it will not be getting rid of the popular CX-3 nameplate in Australia, with plans to introduce a second generation of the compact SUV next year. The Japanese automaker confirmed this news during a financial results presentation, stating that the “next-generation CX-3 (compact SUV)” will be produced at the AutoAlliance Thailand plant, which is a joint venture with Ford.

The upcoming CX-3 is expected to feature some form of mild-hybrid or hybrid powertrain, aligning with Mazda’s commitment to launch four new hybrids by the end of the decade. Sketches released in 2025 provide a glimpse of what the new CX-3 may look like, showcasing a small, rounded SUV design with elements reminiscent of the current CX-5 model. These sketches hint at a modern and stylish design that will likely appeal to a wide range of consumers.

Despite the CX-3’s success in Australia, it has been discontinued in some major markets such as Europe, the US, and Japan. However, Mazda has decided to continue production for markets like Southeast Asia and Mexico, where the model continues to be well-received.
