United Flight Forced to Turn Around Due to Bluetooth Security Concerns

A United Airlines flight from Newark to Palma de Mallorca had to make a U-turn just an hour after takeoff on Saturday night, all because of a Bluetooth signal causing security concerns. Passengers onboard were asked to turn off their Bluetooth devices, with flight attendants issuing warnings about remaining active devices.

Reports from Reddit users who claimed to be on the flight mentioned flight attendants making comments like, “This little joke is ruining it for everyone.”

An archived recording from Air Traffic Control confirmed that the issue stemmed from the name of a discoverable Bluetooth speaker onboard.

According to the recording, a security concern arose when a Bluetooth speaker was named with a certain four-letter word, prompting a thorough inspection of the aircraft and the evacuation of passengers.

While the recording did not explicitly confirm the Bluetooth name in question, speculations pointed towards the word “bomb,” given the crew and security response. This incident serves as a reminder to avoid using provocative names for electronic devices.
