Undead Unleashed: Capcom’s New Resident Evil Creature Collector Game
Capcom’s Director Kenji Oguro on Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
Capcom’s director, Kenji Oguro, recently shared insights with Very Gary Computing about the upcoming spin-off game, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. Oguro expressed that this new title represents the JRPG that the team has always aspired to create.
In the interview, Oguro highlighted the differences in expectations between Capcom’s role-playing games and the renowned Final Fantasy series, emphasizing that older fans tend to have more traditional preferences.
One intriguing aspect of the conversation was Oguro’s musings on a potential spin-off for the Resident Evil franchise. He envisioned a game where players would not collect monsters but instead focus on curing them, offering a unique twist on the creature-collecting concept.
Oguro explained, “The fundamental concept of Monster Hunter Stories was to shift the perspective of monsters from adversaries to companions, fostering a bond with these creatures. Similarly, a Resident Evil Stories game could explore the idea of finding a cure for the infected individuals, aiming to restore their humanity.”
While Oguro acknowledged that befriending zombies might not be feasible, he suggested that the game could involve developing a cure in real-time, akin to the gameplay mechanics of Dead Rising.
Reflecting on Oguro’s insights, it is fascinating to consider the possibilities of an open-world game where players must cure T-viral mutants to progress and explore new areas. The potential for action-puzzling elements to facilitate the curing process adds an exciting dimension to the gameplay experience.
Resident Evil Spin-off: A New Gameplay Direction
Contrary to traditional expectations of Resident Evil games focused on combat, Oguro’s vision for a spin-off presents a fresh perspective. By emphasizing curing mechanics over shooting, the game could offer a unique blend of puzzle-solving and strategic gameplay.
Capcom’s ability to develop inventive curing mechanics that simulate the intensity of gunplay without excessive violence showcases the company’s commitment to innovation in game design.
While Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection has not been reviewed extensively, previous installments have garnered praise for their engaging combat and monster-collecting mechanics. Despite criticisms of the story and world-building aspects, the game’s addictive gameplay elements have resonated with players.
Ultimately, the prospect of exploring a Resident Evil spin-off that challenges players to cure infected individuals and navigate complex moral dilemmas presents an intriguing opportunity for Capcom to diversify its portfolio and engage with fans in new ways.
