Massive Recall Issued for Ford Expedition Console Defect

A massive recall has been issued for over 548,463 Ford Expedition SUVs due to a concerning issue with the center console. These recalls specifically target certain models produced between 2018 and 2024, where the chrome on the center console is at risk of peeling away, potentially posing a danger to occupants.

Documentation submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that nearly 12.8% of the affected vehicles may have the defective center console. The reports highlight that the chrome plating on the console could bubble and eventually peel, leaving sharp edges exposed that could lead to injuries.

The NHTSA suggests that the peeling chrome may have been produced outside of Ford’s specifications. The reports mention a total of 65 injuries and 1 accident linked to this defect. As of June 2nd this year, Ford had received 34 reports from the customer call center, 150 field reports, and approximately 4634 warranty reports globally related to the peeling chrome issue.

The documentation also outlines the process for addressing the problem. Owners are advised to take their Expedition to the nearest dealership for inspections. If the center console shows signs of peeling chrome, it will be replaced by a technician.

Dealerships have already been informed, and interim owner notification mail is set to be dispatched starting June 29. However, the actual remedy won’t be available until January 29, 2027.
