The Legendary Ford Proving Ground: A Hollywood Icon
Action-Packed Liam Neeson Film, ‘The Mongoose,’ Takes Over Victoria
When a Liam Neeson movie hits the big screen, viewers expect action, shootouts, and the iconic Irish actor threatening bad guys. However, in a surprising twist, the Hollywood production for ‘The Mongoose’ transformed Victoria in 2025, with filming locations spanning Castlemaine, Altona, and even Lang Lang.
While Lang Lang may have flown under the radar during production, it played a significant role in the film, featuring prominently in various scenes. The trailer offers a glimpse into the high-octane car chase sequences and intense drama that await viewers.
The film’s plot follows a war hero, played by Liam Neeson, falsely accused of a crime. Determined to clear his name, he embarks on a cross-country car chase with the help of his comrades, evading law enforcement at every turn.
One of the standout stars of the film is the Ford S650 Mustang, disguised as a Shelby Super Snake. These vehicles, including a mix of Ecoboost and V8 models, were later acquired by Mustang Motorsport, continuing their legacy in Melbourne.
The decision to feature a Ford Mustang in a film set at the former Holden Proving Ground adds a touch of irony to the storyline. Still, the Mustang’s on-screen presence pays homage to its illustrious history in cinema.
As the film unfolds, viewers will catch glimpses of other vehicles, such as the Holden Caprice, adding depth to the action-packed sequences. The film’s climax, featuring a dramatic car flip down a hill, was shot in the secluded area known as "Tiny Town" at the Lang Lang facility.
Following the production, Mustang Motorsport plans to release a content series documenting the acquisition and refurbishment of the film’s vehicles. The V8 Mustang, now on display at Lorbek Luxury Cars in Melbourne, serves as a testament to the film’s enduring legacy.
While the Lang Lang Proving Ground has transitioned to new ownership, memories of its automotive testing days live on through cinematic works like ‘The Mongoose.’ The film’s release in Australian cinemas on October 30, 2026, promises an adrenaline-fueled experience for audiences.
Directed by Mark Vanselow and featuring a star-studded cast including Liam Neeson, Marissa Tomei, Ving Rhames, and Michael Chiklis, ‘The Mongoose’ is set to captivate viewers with its thrilling narrative and high-speed action sequences.
