291 Volkswagen Amaroks Recalled in South Africa Over Airbag Defect

The Volkswagen Group Africa Recalls 291 VW Amarok Vehicles in South Africa

The Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has issued a recall for 291 VW Amarok vehicles in South Africa, originally sold between June 2, 2026, and September 15, 2026. This action comes in response to a safety concern regarding the curtain airbags in these vehicles.

On October 5, 2026, the South African National Consumer Commission (NCC) released a statement highlighting that the affected vehicles, produced during a specific period, are equipped with faulty curtain airbags that may not deploy correctly in the event of a front or side impact.

The NCC has identified that a component within the vehicle’s interior could interfere with the airbag deployment, posing a safety risk to the driver and passengers. In case of a collision, sharp elements of the airbag may separate and cause injuries to the front passengers, particularly to the head or neck area, increasing the potential harm in an accident.

To address this issue, Volkswagen Amarok owners are advised to visit their nearest approved Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles dealership for a thorough assessment and replacement of the affected components. The company assures that all necessary work will be conducted free of charge.

If you suspect that your vehicle may be part of this recall, the NCC encourages you to contact them via email at [email protected] or through social media using the handle @TheNCC_RSA.
