When it comes to the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra, they are more than just platform mates. These two cars share so much in common, with the most noticeable difference being the roofline. Toyota exclusively offers the Supra as a coupe, while BMW has stuck with a folding soft top for the latest Z4 model. However, for enthusiasts, the lack of a factory Z4 Coupe didn’t deter them from bringing their dream car to life. At SEMA this year, someone made that dream a reality.

The Z4 Coupe Based on a Supra: Introducing the Zupra?

On a basic level, the idea of a Z4-swapped Supra is quite straightforward. Since the mechanical components and much more are shared between the two cars, bringing this concept to life should be as simple as aligning a few things and nailing the paint job. But at SEMA, a build can never just be “good enough.” This Z4 Coupe based on a Supra goes beyond a mere bumper swap. The car is adorned with carbon fiber elements on the front, sides, and rear, along with 20-inch BBS LM-R wheels featuring M-badged red brake calipers. At the back, you’ll find a roundel on the “trunk” lid, a carbon fiber spoiler, quad-exit exhaust tips with a polished finish, and aftermarket taillights inspired by the M4 CSL design.

Inside the vehicle, changes have been made to match its new identity. The old Toyota seats have been replaced with new Recaro seats featuring red stitching. The steering wheel now displays BMW and M badges, while the addition of new paddle shifters gives a nod to the G8X M Series cars. Under the hood, the Supra’s B58 engine now boasts a carbon-laden engine cover.

Decoding the Name

While “Zupra” may seem like the obvious name for this project, the creators opted for a more elaborate title: “GW29CS Zhüpra,” with “CS” standing for “clown shoe.” This name choice may seem a bit misaligned, as the original M Coupe was the true “clown shoe” due to its shooting brake design, which the Zupra does not fully embody. Despite this, the level of dedication put into the build is commendable. It’s hard not to wish for an official G29 Z4 M Coupe after seeing this creation. Check out the gallery below for more images.
