Apple’s new limited edition iPhone grip is all about accessibility

Apple Collaborates with Artist Bailey Hikawa for New MagSafe iPhone Grip

Apple has joined forces with artist and designer Bailey Hikawa to create a unique MagSafe iPhone grip that prioritizes accessibility. Priced at $69.95, the Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand is now available at the Apple Store as a limited edition item.

Design and Features

The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand comes in two color options from Apple – Brat green and a speckled stone finish. Additionally, Hikawa offers blue and swirly blurple choices on her own store. Made of soft-touch silicone, this accessory attaches magnetically to the iPhone and functions as both a grip and a stand, supporting both horizontal and vertical orientations. Apple states that the design was influenced by direct feedback from individuals with disabilities that impact muscle strength, dexterity, and hand control.

Accessibility and User Experience

The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand was specifically crafted to accommodate various ways of holding an iPhone while minimizing the effort required to maintain stability. Bailey Hikawa emphasizes that while this grip enhances user experience, it may not address every adaptive need with a single device. The artist, known for her innovative designs, operates a studio in LA where she not only produces functional phone cases but also unique decorative toilet seats.

Future Offerings and Vision

Expressing her satisfaction in creating products that improve user comfort and accessibility, Hikawa shared with Elle Decor her joy in receiving positive feedback from users. She envisions a future with a diverse range of offerings that cater to all body types and needs.
