The FCC Approves SpaceX to Launch Additional Starlink Satellites

In an exciting development, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted approval to SpaceX to launch an additional 7,500 second-generation Starlink satellites. This brings the total number of satellites in the Starlink constellation to 15,000, expanding high-speed internet coverage worldwide.

The FCC’s decision not only allows SpaceX to increase its satellite deployment but also enables Starlink satellites to operate across five frequencies. This approval paves the way for providing direct-to-cell connectivity outside the United States and enhancing coverage within the U.S.

According to a report by Reuters, SpaceX had sought approval for an additional 15,000 satellites. However, the FCC opted to defer authorization for the remaining 14,988 proposed Gen2 Starlink satellites.

Under the FCC’s guidelines, SpaceX is required to launch 50% of the approved Starlink satellites by December 1, 2028, with the remaining 50% to be deployed by December 2031.
