Enhanced Privacy Controls: iOS 26.3 Introduces Location Data Limitation Feature for Carrier Sharing

iOS 26.3 adds new feature to limit location data shared with your carrier

Apple has introduced a new feature in iOS 26.3 that is exclusive to devices with an Apple modem called “limit precise location.” This feature allows users to limit the information that cellular networks use to determine their location. When enabled, cellular networks will only be able to determine a less precise location, such as the neighborhood where the device is located, rather than a specific street address. This setting does not affect signal quality, user experience, or the accuracy of location data shared with emergency responders – it only impacts the location data available to cellular networks.

To use this feature, you will need an iPhone Air, iPhone 16e, or iPad Pro (M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular, running iOS 26.3 or later, and a supported carrier such as Telekom in Germany, EE or BT in the United Kingdom, Boost Mobile in the United States, or AIS and True in Thailand. To toggle the setting, simply open Settings, tap on Cellular, then Cellular Data Options, select your line if you have multiple, scroll down to Limit Precise Location, and turn the setting on or off. You may need to restart your device after making this change.

This feature is currently exclusive to devices powered by Apple’s in-house modem chips, such as the C1X modem in the iPad Pro and iPhone Air, and the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e. It is expected that future devices, like the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max with the C2 modem, will also support this feature. This is likely just the first of many features that Apple will introduce for devices with its own modem in the future.
