Amazon has introduced a new feature called Alexa for Shopping, which integrates its Rufus e-commerce chatbot with the Alexa assistant. This new capability aims to streamline product research, user preferences, and shopping activities across Amazon’s platforms.

As more consumers rely on AI assistants for shopping advice, Amazon is enhancing its AI shopping experience by allowing Alexa for Shopping to monitor prices, make automatic purchases, and schedule household essentials restocking.

With the retirement of the “Rufus” name, Amazon is rebranding its chatbot as Alexa for Shopping in its app and website, while still using Rufus behind the scenes.

Various AI assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini have recently introduced shopping features, but Amazon is focusing on providing a unified and personalized shopping experience to retain customers on its platform.

Alexa for Shopping will be available in the U.S. in the coming week, accessible to all Amazon account holders without the need for a Prime membership, Echo device, or Alexa app.

Rajiv Mehta, Amazon’s vice president of Conversational Shopping, highlighted the seamless shopping experience enabled by Alexa for Shopping, allowing customers to continue their shopping “missions” across different devices without losing context.

Features of Alexa for Shopping include asking questions in the main Amazon search bar, scheduled actions for automated tasks, custom shopping guides, and expanded product price history.

  • Customers can manage their Alexa interactions through the Alexa Privacy Dashboard, ensuring privacy and personalization.
  • Amazon aims to provide the best shopping assistant by enhancing personalization and shopping history.

Overall, Amazon is committed to developing a comprehensive shopping assistant with Alexa for Shopping, offering a seamless and personalized shopping experience for its users.
