Apple’s Global Release of the Hikawa MagSafe iPhone Grip
Apple is reintroducing a limited-edition accessory from last year as part of its 2026 AI accessibility features, now available globally. The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand, designed by LA-based artist and industrial designer Bailey Hikawa, was initially released to celebrate 40 years of accessibility at Apple. This unique accessory is designed to assist individuals with disabilities affecting motor skills, muscular strength, grip tension, or stability in holding onto an iPhone. The grip attaches via MagSafe, making it compatible with a wide range of iPhone models. It can attach directly to the MagSafe ring on an iPhone 12 or newer, as well as magnetic cases for non-MagSafe iPhones.
The original Hikawa grip, available in Crater or Chartreuse, quickly sold out at the Apple Store for $69.95. Bailey Hikawa continued to offer variations on her boutique website, but in limited quantities and with international shipping costs. Fortunately, Apple has partnered with PopSockets to mass-produce the Grip & Stand, which will now be sold in Apple Stores worldwide. The new version comes in Glow Blue, Orange Swirl, and Speckled Stone colors, priced at $54.95.
Hikawa expressed gratitude for Apple’s commitment to accessibility, stating, “Our studio focuses on creating intuitive, delightful iPhone accessories, and it has been an honor to develop a product that highlights iPhone as an assistive device while promoting accessibility.” The new Grip & Stand features a premium silicone construction with a soft-touch feel, offering comfortable ways to hold an iPhone and prop it up in landscape or portrait orientations.
The product is available for order on the Apple Store, with shipping times expected to be a few weeks out. The involvement of PopSockets suggests a more sustainable inventory than the original release. Apple’s product page credits the design to Bailey Hikawa, with development and production by PopSockets.
Apple has also announced a Today at Apple session featuring Bailey Hikawa, author Shane Burcaw, and actor Alex Barone discussing the role of iPhone as an assistive technology and the importance of accessible design in creating inclusive experiences for all users.
