Fortnite x Overwatch Collaboration: What to Expect
In an unexpected turn of events, two of the most popular multiplayer games of the past decade are joining forces. Fortnite x Overwatch is set to introduce a selection of beloved heroes from Blizzard’s Overwatch into Epic Games’ Fortnite.
The much-anticipated Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2 Act 3 is scheduled to launch tomorrow, on Thursday, May 14th. This new season will bring a range of Overwatch skins to the game, including fan-favorite characters like Mercy, D.Va, Tracer, and Genji.
The official description for the collaboration reads, “Overwatch heroes D.Va, Genji, Tracer, and Mercy join the battle as tensions escalate between the Foundation and the Ice King to safeguard the island.”
While this partnership may seem unexpected, considering the timing of the two games’ releases, it’s not entirely surprising. Overwatch debuted in 2016 to critical acclaim, quickly becoming a favorite among gamers. Fortnite followed suit in 2017, capturing the gaming world’s attention with its battle royale format. Since then, Fortnite has made a name for itself by incorporating a wide range of intellectual properties and licensed characters, from Master Chief to Aloy, from Thanos to Batman, and even real-life sports and pop stars.
Despite Fortnite’s history of collaborations, seeing Activision Blizzard characters in the game still feels somewhat surreal. It begs the question: who might be next to join the Fortnite universe? Could we see characters like Captain Price, Soap, or Makarov make an appearance?
