Exclusive: Google Gemini Proactive Assistance Upgrade Revealed

Google is elevating its Gemini AI assistant with Proactive Assistance, which will provide useful information without requiring user requests.

The company has recently launched its Personal Intelligence upgrade, moving beyond the current AI assistants’ basic web search capabilities to offer a more personalized experience by delving into users’ most frequently used services.

The next evolution in Google’s AI strategy is Proactive Assistance.

Android Authority discovered Proactive Assistance while exploring the latest Google app version. Screenshots suggest that this feature will offer “personalized suggestions at the right moment.”

Proactive Assistance sources information from three main channels: current screen content, notifications, and app data (subject to user permissions).

This feature can deliver reminders, insights, and contextual actions at optimal times when they are most beneficial.

Users can choose which apps Google can access for this function, such as Contacts and Messages. All data processed for Proactive Assistance is done locally on the device in an encrypted environment.

While the timeline for the rollout of Proactive Assistance to end users is unclear, it appears to be nearing completion. Stay tuned for updates.

Memories arrives in the UK

In other Gemini news, Google has announced the launch of its Memories feature in the UK.

This feature enables Gemini to learn from past interactions with users, remembering their preferences and interests to offer more personalized outcomes.

For instance, if a user has shown a liking for a particular comic book character, Gemini will suggest related birthday party themes or gift ideas accordingly.

It can also leverage any previously shared book preferences to provide tailored book recommendations.
