Google Admits Intel-Based Googlebook Laptops May Have Issues Running Some Android Apps

Google has finally acknowledged that there may be compatibility issues with running certain Android apps on their new Googlebook laptops powered by Intel processors. This revelation comes as the new Googlebook models are being released to the market.

While the majority of Android apps run smoothly on both Intel and Qualcomm Googlebook models, it has been noted that a few complex apps or games may require developer adjustments to perform optimally on Intel-based devices. Google is actively collaborating with app developers, Intel, and Qualcomm to enhance performance and broaden compatibility across their entire product range.

While Google has not disclosed the exact number of apps that may face performance issues, nor have they identified any specific problematic apps, users should be aware of this potential issue.

Out of the five Googlebook models released today, three (from Acer, Asus, and Lenovo) are equipped with x86 Intel chips, while the Dell and HP models utilize Qualcomm’s Arm-based Snapdragon processors. The latter are expected to offer better compatibility with Android apps due to their architecture. Testing will be conducted on all five Googlebook laptops by the Verge team, and any specific issues encountered will be reported.
