Driving a fast car flat-out around a racetrack is almost always fun. But it can also be intimidating, especially when the car wears a Porsche badge and the track is Phillip Island, one of the world’s fastest circuits.

Despite being cautious due to the previous incident, I gradually gain confidence and begin to trust the car’s capabilities. The session progresses well, with more moments of success than failure, and I start to push the car harder through the corners, experiencing the rear-engined layout’s benefits. Each full-throttle exit is accompanied by the captivating sound of the 4.0-liter flat six engine, adding to the exhilarating experience. Today may not be about more power, but the overall performance of the GT3 with the Manthey Kit is truly impressive. The additional downforce provided by Manthey’s aero parts is a significant advantage, offering up to 540kg at 285km/h, compared to the standard GT3’s maximum of 385kg. This extra downforce is most noticeable in the faster sections of Phillip Island, such as Doohan Corner, the uphill run to Lukey Heights, and the final corner leading back to the main straight, where the car firmly plants itself on the track surface.

Surprisingly, the increased downforce does not seem to affect the straight-line speed of the Manthey GT3, allowing it to easily overtake other vehicles on the track. Despite feeling comfortable with the car’s performance, the session comes to an end as the chequered flag waves.

Fortunately, there is another session to look forward to, although without Fabian joining the driver. With the clouds clearing and the car’s capabilities becoming apparent, it presents an exciting opportunity to further explore the GT3 with the Manthey Kit.

In optimal conditions, the track performance of the Manthey GT3 is undeniable, showcasing superb mechanical grip and body control through corners like Southern Loop and Miller Hairpin. The suspension modifications by Manthey, including firmer front springs and adjustable dampers, contribute to the car’s impressive handling without compromising the driver’s comfort.

Descending into Turn 10, the brakes prove to be highly effective with minimal front-end dive. The car maintains its composure throughout the session, demonstrating consistent performance without any noticeable degradation in braking or tire grip.

Accelerating down the pit straight, the GT3 effortlessly reaches high speeds, with the responsive seven-speed PDK transmission delivering seamless gear changes. The engine’s performance is exceptional, but it is the handling and confidence-inspiring characteristics of the Manthey GT3 that truly stand out on the track.

While there are faster cars available, the Manthey GT3 instills a unique level of confidence in the driver, allowing for consistent and repeatable performance without any signs of fatigue or performance drop-off. The track-ready 911 proves to be a thrilling and rewarding experience, even for a novice driver.
