Tesla's new emergency feature allows you to drive away while charging

Tesla Introduces Innovative Emergency Drive Away Feature at Superchargers

Tesla has recently unveiled a unique new feature that allows drivers to leave a Supercharger without manually unplugging the charging cable. This feature, known as Emergency Drive Away, enables a Tesla vehicle to be shifted into Drive mode while still connected to the charger. Currently, this functionality is exclusive to Superchargers in the United States and requires the latest software update version 2026.38.3.

Traditionally, drivers are required to disconnect the charging handle before driving off. However, with the introduction of Emergency Drive Away, Tesla owners can now select the “Activate” option on the screen to initiate the system, which automatically releases the charging handle from the vehicle, allowing it to depart.

It is important to note that there is a crucial caveat associated with this feature. Tesla cautions that using Emergency Drive Away can cause damage to both the vehicle and the Supercharger. Furthermore, deliberate misuse of the function may lead to additional penalties being imposed.

It is evident that the primary purpose of this feature is for genuine emergencies, rather than as a convenient way to conclude a charging session routinely.
