Summary created by Smart Answers AI
In summary:
- Tech Advisor reports that The Mandalorian & Grogu movie premieres May 22, 2026, featuring Pedro Pascal returning as Din Djarin alongside new cast members Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White.
- This film represents the first of several planned Star Wars movies, connecting various series while exploring Grogu’s mysterious past during the Great Jedi Purge.
- The movie sets up Season 4 storylines involving the Shadow Council threat and potential crossovers with characters from other Star Wars series.
The bounty hunter and the little green creature have been travelling through the galaxy for three seasons now, getting involved in all sorts of adventures. All indications are that their journey won’t end any time soon. Not only is there a fourth season in the pipeline, but there’s also a film about the dynamic duo in the works.
We already have two spin-off shows of The Mandalorian: The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. Plus, there are other series available that are set in the Star wars universe. There’s Andor, a Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna. And Ewan McGregor reprised his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in yet another spin-off series.
So. Much. Star Wars.

What is the potential release date for The Mandalorian season 4?
The fate of The Mandalorian season 4 is unclear although, according to Jon Favreau, the script has already been written (via BFMTV on Twitter). There’s no word on when the show may start filming, so we can’t know when the fourth instalment will premiere.
For now, Disney is focusing on creating a feature film about the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu.
The Mandalorian season 4 cast: Who is expected to return?
Whilst Disney has made no firm announcements, we expect that Pedro Pascal will be back in the leading role of Din Djarin (AKA Mando).
Sadly, Carl Weathers won’t return to the role of Greef Karg – the actor passed away in February 2024.
We can, however, expect to see Katee Sackhoff’s Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze. Emily Swallows is also expected to come back as The Armorer, as is Amy Sedaris as the scatty engineer, Peli Motto.
Rosario Dawson starred in her own spin-off series as Ahsoka Tano, so we could see her make another cameo appearance as her show takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian.
Captain Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) will be a lead character in Rangers of the New Republic, so another appearance from him is possible too.
Temuera Morrison played a pivotal role as Boba Fett in season two. Equally, Mando played a big part in his series. We wouldn’t be surprised to see crossovers with both characters once again, and perhaps an appearance from Ming-Na Wen as sniper Fennec Shand.
The big question mark is whether we’ll get an appearance from the show’s big bad, Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito – more on his character follows.
What will the plot of The Mandalorian season 4 be?
Spoilers for season three of The Mandalorian below
The end of the third season ended pretty positively for Din Djarin and Grogu, as they not only escaped Moff Gideon, but also assisted in retaking Mandalore from the Imperials, with Bo-Katan taking up the position of leader.
Din will likely once again take up contracts and missions for the Mandalorian, and help them re-establish their lives and presence on Mandalore.
Of course, there are some unresolved issues. While it’s assumed that Moff Gideon met his demise in an explosion, we never saw a body. He seemingly had big plans for Grogu, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he makes another appearance next season.

The other antagonist is likely to be the Shadow Council. These are the individuals who joined Gideon on his holographic call – former members of the Empire who are determined to reclaim the galaxy.
One notable member is Commandant Brendol Hux, who is the father of General Armitage Hux – Kylo Ren’s second-in-command in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It’s highly likely that this group will build the beginnings of what will eventually be the First Order.
Baby Yoda also has history left to be explored. In season two, Luke gave us a glimpse into when Grogu was originally taken from his home during the Great Jedi Purge. While ‘Din Grogu’ is now officially under the care of Din Djarin, his past may come back to haunt him.
Grand Admiral Thrawn was the big villain of Ahsoka, which could tie heavily into the next series of The Mandalorian (if previous Star Wars shows are anything to go by).
The Mandalorian & Grogu film: What does this mean for the series?
As it turned out, the series won’t be the only new story featuring Din Djarin and Baby Yoda. The first film about the pair of heroes, titled The Mandalorian & Grogu, will hit theatres on Friday, 22 May 2026. The flick is directed by none other than Jon Favreau.
``` Pedro Pascal, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni, is collaborating on the production of the upcoming film. The title role will be played by Pascal, supported onscreen by Sigourney Weaver, known for her roles in Alien and Avatar, portraying Colonel Ward, the leader of the New Republic's Adelphi Rangers and a former Rebel Alliance pilot.
Weaver shared with Deadline her excitement about being part of The Mandalorian & Grogu project, mentioning her recent encounter with the character Grogu. Jeremy Allen White will also join the cast as Rotta the Hutt, the son of the notorious Jabba the Hutt.
Steve Blum and Jonny Coyne are set to portray Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and Imperial Warlord, respectively, in the film. Plot details are being kept under wraps, leaving fans to speculate on how the movie will fit into the timeline of the show and its connections to other Star Wars titles.
Based on trailers, the story will follow Din Djarin on a mission assigned by Colonel Ward to prevent a potential conflict, leading him and Grogu on a journey across the galaxy. They will encounter various characters, including Zeb Orrelios, Embo the bounty hunter, and Anzellan creatures.
The Mandalorian and Grogu movie marks the beginning of a new phase of Star Wars films from Disney, with three more movies planned for the future. James Mangold will direct a New Republic-era story linked to The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, while Dave Filoni and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm projects exploring the origins of the Jedi and Rey's adventures, respectively. Taika Waititi is also expected to contribute his unique vision to the Star Wars universe.
For those eagerly anticipating the release, stay tuned for updates on when movie tickets will be available.
