Fantasy tactics RPG Wartales is getting a "dense, reactive" capital city in the next DLC expansion, yours to save or destroy

Discover the Exciting New Wartales DLC: Fires in the Capital

Prepare yourself for a thrilling new expansion to the medieval RPG Wartales, as the Fires in the Capital DLC is set to launch in April. This new addition introduces players to Isandrin, a war-torn metropolis and the crown jewel of Edoran, home to the Legion. Departing from the rugged outland adventures you may be accustomed to, Isandrin offers a dense, reactive capital where every decision can have a significant impact on the city, thanks to the Chaos system.

As a formidable leader of a group of mercenaries, the fate of Isandrin rests in your hands. Will you strive to restore order to the city, or will you choose a darker path, hastening its demise with questionable methods such as eliminating bandits or inciting public unrest through song? The choice is yours!

According to a press release, Isandrin provides a unique experience compared to the frontier regions typically explored in Wartales. Combat is just one aspect of gameplay, with players having the opportunity to engage in activities such as hunting down criminals, dismantling propaganda, supporting civic institutions, or even using their skills as a bard to sway public opinion. Every action you take will influence the city’s balance, impacting everything from trade conditions to district stability.

Players can look forward to objective-based urban battle scenarios that are influenced by the state of the capital. Whether you’re quelling a riot, escorting vital supplies, or rescuing citizens from burning buildings, Isandrin offers a variety of challenges to test your strategic skills.

Former RPS reviewer Nic Reuben praised Wartales for its engaging gameplay and systems, highlighting the tactically interesting combat and immersive world. However, he expressed a desire for a more structured campaign to complement the game’s open-ended nature.
