Empowering NATO: The European Investors Shaping Defence and Innovation
NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) has recently unveiled the initial 24 investors who have joined the NATO DIANA Capital Network (NDCN), with 20 of them being based in Europe. Some of the European investors include Bpifrance, DTCP, and Project A.
The NDCN serves as a group of NATO-aligned investors with the goal of supporting the growth of innovative solutions crucial to Allied security.
Acting Managing Director of NATO DIANA, Jyoti Hirani-Driver, emphasized the importance of the NATO DIANA Capital Network in enhancing the Alliance’s technological and defensive capabilities. By connecting NATO-aligned capital with promising innovators, the network facilitates the transition of cutting-edge technologies into real-world applications within a secure and values-driven environment.
The launch of the NATO DIANA Capital Network coincides with significant investment in European defense and dual-use technology in 2026. EU-Startups has reported approximately €1.73 billion in funding across ten company financings this year, with notable investments in companies like Quantum Systems, ICEYE, and Kraken Technology Group.
The NDCN comprises sovereign and sovereign-backed funds, leading venture capital firms, family offices, and institutional investors from the 32 NATO Allied nations. Members of the network gain access to DIANA’s screened company pipeline, connections to fellow investors within the Alliance, exclusive engagements with NATO leadership and end-users, and a zero-fee model from DIANA.
The NDCN is part of the broader NATO DIANA network, which identifies and accelerates cutting-edge technologies to provide defense and security solutions for the Alliance while promoting DeepTech innovation.
Moving forward, DIANA plans to onboard more investors into the NDCN by the end of the year. Members of the network will have the opportunity to engage with DIANA-validated innovators, whose technologies have been tested and de-risked against NATO and Allied capability requirements.
The inaugural investors in the NDCN are divided by European country of origin, with representatives from France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, international investors from Canada and the United States are also part of the network.
Overall, the establishment of the NATO DIANA Capital Network signifies a significant step towards fostering innovation and collaboration within the defense and dual-use technology sector in Europe. Transform the following sentence into a question:
