Accused Toyota LandCruiser Crime Ring Member Denied Bail, Could Serve 14 Years Behind Bars
Man Denied Bail in Brisbane Arrest Court for Alleged Involvement in Toyota LandCruiser Theft Ring
A man accused of being part of a crime ring responsible for the theft of over 60 Toyota LandCruisers, valued at more than $8 million, has been denied bail in Brisbane Arrest Court. The first of five men allegedly involved in the syndicate, Sher Hussain Mahasely, a 29-year-old Uber driver and business owner, was arrested on December 9, 2025, by Queensland Police Service officers.
During a court appearance, Mr. Mahasely’s application for bail was denied after a 30-minute proceeding. The Queensland Police Service claims that he is part of a five-man crime syndicate that targeted Toyota vehicles in Brisbane, stealing 74 cars, including LandCruiser 300 Series and RAV4 SUVs, over a three-week period.
According to authorities, the syndicate used a CAN bus tool to steal the vehicles, a method previously employed by thieves in Victoria. This tool allows thieves to bypass security features, disable the vehicle’s tracking system, and sell the stolen cars or parts overseas.
Mr. Mahasely, who recently established a car-parts business called Sherwood Car Parts P/L in Rocklea, Brisbane, faced opposition from the magistrate in his bail application. Despite his lawyer’s arguments, the magistrate deemed the alleged crimes as highly organized and sophisticated, posing an unacceptable risk if bail were granted.
Toyota Australia is actively working to address the issue of vehicle theft across the country, particularly targeting their popular models like the LandCruiser. The case against Mr. Mahasely is set to proceed in court in January 2026.
