iOS 27.2 to Introduce New App Migration Feature

In the upcoming iOS 27.2 update, Apple is set to introduce a new feature that will make it easier for developers to migrate app data and settings from an existing app to a new one seamlessly.

Simplified App Replacement Process

Sometimes developers retire an app and replace it with a new one, requiring users to transfer their data and settings. With iOS 27.2, Apple aims to streamline this process by offering a system-managed migration flow.

When users launch the new app, they will receive a prompt recommending the transfer of data and settings from the old app to the new one. Users can choose to either move the data or start fresh.

The developer recommends moving your existing “%1$@” app data and settings to the new “%2$@” app.

iPhone can do this for you now, before you start using your new app. Afterwards, the old app will be deleted from this iPhone.

If users opt not to transfer the data, they will receive a warning that certain preferences may need to be reconfigured manually.

It’s important to note that this feature is designed for cases where a developer replaces their own app with a successor, rather than transferring data between apps from different developers.

The migration process will include transferring various settings and permissions such as privacy, location, Health authorization decisions, notification settings, Do Not Disturb settings, and more.
