Discover Turnbound: An Early Access Tile and Turn-Based Autobattler

Turnbound, a new game released in early access, offers players a unique experience in the world of autobattlers. Set in a haunted boardgame filled with mythical heroes, the game introduces a quirky element right from the start – the player who goes first is determined by flipping a coin featuring a cat’s anus. Surprisingly, this seemingly bizarre detail adds a touch of whimsy to the overall fairytale ambience of Turnbound. It’s a refreshing departure from the norm in the gaming world, where such eccentricities are usually frowned upon.

The core gameplay of Turnbound revolves around selecting a hero from iconic characters like Robin Hood, Sun Wukong, and Alice. Players must strategically place tiles on the board to execute attacks, provide protection, and create synergies between different elements. The battles unfold over 10 rounds, with a twist – some of the opponent boards are created by other players, adding an element of surprise and challenge.

In between rounds, players have the opportunity to visit a shop screen to purchase new tiles, upgrade existing ones, and unlock squares on their board. Additionally, there are moments to upgrade the hero and equip trinkets, adding a structured progression to the gameplay. Described as a fusion of Backpack Battles, Hearthstone Battlegrounds, and inventory Tetris, Turnbound offers a unique blend of strategic elements and engaging mechanics.

During battles, the placement of tiles plays a crucial role in determining their impact. From ‘taunt’ tiles that absorb enemy attacks to accessory tiles that bestow status effects, the game offers a variety of tactical options. Each hero comes with distinct abilities – Sun Wukong excels in chain attacks, Alice can put enemies to sleep while bolstering herself, and Robin Hood is a skilled counterpuncher.

While the tactical depth of Turnbound is still under evaluation, its presentation is undeniably captivating. The art style, reminiscent of anime-fantasy aesthetics, exudes charm and charisma. Interacting with the game elements, such as tiles in the shop screen or physics-based animations, adds to the immersive experience. And of course, there’s the infamous coin with the cat’s anus, which surprisingly becomes a quirky highlight rather than a deterrent.

The developers of Turnbound, 1TK, have ambitious plans for the full game, promising more characters, skins, and a plethora of items and abilities. While a definitive launch date for version 1.0 is yet to be announced, the developers aim to deliver an enhanced gaming experience within the next 4-6 months.
