Microsoft launches Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 with Intel chips

Microsoft is launching new versions of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, starting with Intel’s latest Core Ultra Series 3 processors. The Surface Pro 12, also known as the Surface Pro for Business 13-inch (12th Edition), is now available for businesses at a starting price of $1,949.99. This base model comes with an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 13-inch PixelSense LCD display.

Businesses can opt for higher configurations of the Surface Pro 12, including models with Intel’s Core Ultra 7 processor, up to 64GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. The top-of-the-line model with a Core Ultra 7 processor, 64GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage is priced at $4,399.99. Additionally, there are options for OLED screens and models with 5G connectivity, with the Surface Pro 12 5G starting at $2,249.99.

The design of the Surface Pro 12 remains unchanged from its predecessor, featuring two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support and the Surface Connect magnetic charging port. It also includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, a 1440p Quad HD front-facing camera, and a 10-megapixel 4K rear-facing camera.

In addition to the Surface Pro 12, Microsoft is introducing two new versions of the Surface Laptop for businesses. The Surface Laptop 8, available in 13.8 or 15-inch sizes, features a range of Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chips. The smaller 13-inch model is labeled the Surface Laptop for Business 13-inch (1st Edition).

The 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 8 starts at $1,949.99 and includes an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The pricing of these new Surface devices reflects a trend of higher prices for Microsoft’s products, with recent consumer models costing $500 more than their original prices.

The Surface Laptop 8 retains the design of the previous model, with the addition of an “advanced haptic touchpad” that provides tactile feedback for various interactions. It also offers an optional integrated privacy screen for added security, managed by IT teams or activated with a single key.

While the Surface Pro 12 offers an OLED display option, the Laptop 8 does not. Instead, the 15-inch model will feature a higher resolution panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both models retain the Surface Connect port for charging, as well as USB-A and USB-C ports. The 15-inch model also includes a MicroSDXC Express card reader.

The smaller 13-inch Surface Laptop for Business (1st Edition) is priced at $1,499.99, offering 8GB of RAM configurations starting at $1,299.99 later this year. The maximum configuration for this model includes a Core Ultra 5 processor, 24GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage for $2,249.99.

The pricing of these new Surface devices hints at what consumers can expect from upcoming models. Rumors suggest that Microsoft may launch a Surface Laptop model with an OLED display in the near future.
