Elon Musk loses his case against Sam Altman

The Verdict: Musk v. Altman Tech Trial Summary

Following approximately two hours of deliberation, the jury in the highly anticipated Musk v. Altman tech trial has reached a unanimous verdict. The jury concluded that certain claims were time-barred under the statute of limitations, leading to the dismissal of others.

It is important to note that the jury in this case serves as an advisory body, providing recommendations to the presiding judge. While their decision is not legally binding, US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ultimately accepted their findings.

Specifically, the jury determined that Elon Musk’s claim for breach of charitable trust was subject to the statute of limitations, leading to the failure of related claims. Furthermore, restitution claims were also found to be time-barred by the jury.

In response to the verdict, OpenAI did not immediately provide a comment. Elon Musk, on the other hand, expressed his intention to file an appeal, emphasizing his belief that the decision was based on procedural grounds rather than the merits of the case.

Microsoft’s spokesperson, Alex Haurek, welcomed the jury’s decision to dismiss certain claims as untimely, affirming the company’s commitment to collaboration with OpenAI in advancing AI technology globally.

The Musk v. Altman trial, which spanned three weeks in an Oakland federal courtroom, centered around allegations of OpenAI deviating from its original mission and misusing funds designated for a specific nonprofit by Elon Musk. Accusations of breach of charitable trust and unjust enrichment were directed at OpenAI executives, with Microsoft also implicated in aiding and abetting these actions. The courtroom drama unfolded with both sides presenting incriminating evidence, resulting in a tarnished reputation for all parties involved.
