Oak’s Mission: Resolving the Identity Crisis Caused by AI Agents
Israeli Startup Oak Emerges from Stealth with $60 Million in Seed Funding
Physical badges used to be the standard for identity management in companies, but with the rise of digital environments and the presence of humans, machines, and AI agents working together, traditional identity tools are no longer sufficient.
Enter Israeli startup Oak, co-founded by serial entrepreneur Shai Morag. The company has unveiled a unified control plane designed to govern identity across organizations. Oak’s product is now publicly available, already in use by enterprise clients, and supported by $60 million in seed funding raised last year.
Oak’s solution addresses the security vulnerability posed by outdated credentials and poor identity access management. It positions itself as an AI-native platform, offering a consolidated alternative to legacy tools that are struggling to keep up with evolving security threats.
According to Oak’s chief product officer, Tal Marom, the startup conducted extensive research by engaging with 100 CISOs and IAM leaders before developing its AI connector framework. This framework dynamically maps access to actual app usage, eliminating unnecessary permissions in real time rather than relying on periodic reviews.
Former army major and cybersecurity expert Shai Morag emphasized the manual and operation-based nature of current identity management processes, highlighting the need for a more proactive, risk-based approach. Oak’s goal is to automate identity management processes and provide real-time alerts for suspicious activities, such as logins from unusual locations.
With a successful track record in cybersecurity and previous exits, Morag’s leadership has attracted significant funding from investors. Oak’s $60 million seed round was co-led by Accel, CRV, and Greylock Partners, with participation from other venture capital firms and angel investors.
Accel partner Andrei Brasoveanu praised Morag’s entrepreneurial skills and vision, noting the potential for Oak to revolutionize the identity management space with its AI-driven approach. Despite facing competition in the market, Oak aims to rapidly scale its operations and establish itself as a leader in the industry.
As Oak expands its team and presence, Morag and his co-founder Tal Marom are focused on building a strong foundation for the company’s growth. With plans to invest heavily in research and development, Oak is poised to make a significant impact on the future of identity management.
With AI playing a crucial role in driving innovation, Oak’s AI-native platform aims to address the complex challenges of identity management and provide organizations with a secure and efficient solution. As Morag embarks on this new venture, he is committed to giving it his all and ensuring Oak’s success in the market.
