Frore: The Silicon Valley Unicorn Rising to $1.64 Billion
Frore Systems Secures $143 Million in Series D Funding
The semiconductor startup Frore Systems, founded eight years ago, recently announced that it has successfully raised $143 million in Series D funding. The funding round was led by MVP Ventures and has brought the company’s valuation to $1.64 billion.
With this latest funding, Frore has now raised a total of $340 million. Unlike traditional semiconductor companies, Frore specializes in creating liquid-cooling systems for chips rather than manufacturing the chips themselves. The company was established by two former Qualcomm engineers, with their initial focus being on air-cooling technology for small electronic devices.
Frore’s shift towards chip cooling solutions was influenced by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who suggested exploring liquid-cooling options for AI chips and systems. Following Huang’s advice, Frore developed products compatible with Nvidia, Qualcomm, and AMD chips and boards.
The semiconductor industry, particularly in the AI sector, has seen significant investment activity. Frore joins the ranks of other unicorns like Positron and Recursive Intelligence, which have achieved billion-dollar valuations. Eridu, a newcomer in the field, also secured a substantial Series A funding round to develop AI networking chips.
Notable investors in Frore’s Series D round include Fidelity, Mayfield, Addition, Qualcomm Ventures, and Alumni Ventures.
