Reson8 Raises €5 Million Pre-Seed Round to Enhance Speech AI Technology

Reson8, a speech AI startup based in Amsterdam, has secured a €5 million pre-Seed funding round to expand its Europe-based infrastructure and advance specialized speech models in over 20 languages. The funding round was led by Balderton Capital, with participation from NP Hard. The company plans to increase its European hardware presence, further develop its inference stack and foundational speech models, and strategically grow its team with a focus on talent density.

“Generic speech models are not effective beyond English, and there is a growing demand for data control from customers. We believe that Europe has the potential to lead in foundational AI by providing a customizable, accurate speech layer that runs on our own infrastructure,” stated Raoul Ritter, co-founder of Reson8.

Founded by Thomas Kluiters, Raoul Ritter, and Jarno Verhagen, Reson8 specializes in building hyper-customized speech recognition technology that adapts to individual conversations in real-time. The platform enables businesses to deploy tailored speech models with higher accuracy across various European languages and industries.

Reson8 addresses the challenge of declining effectiveness in speech recognition when moving from English to European languages, dialects, and industry-specific terms. The company’s innovative approach involves developing acoustically accurate models that can be customized on the fly using live context such as documents, websites, and calendars.

Instead of retraining large models or adding language layers, Reson8 utilizes small, adaptable adapters to enhance speech recognition accuracy without increasing latency or guesswork based on each conversation’s specific context.

“Our belief is that speech recognition should adapt to users rather than the other way around. By prioritizing precision and control, our models accurately reflect real-life language usage,” explained the company.

The company’s speech recognition system excels in managing specialist terminology, names, and fast-paced dialogues, making it easily customizable for different professions, organizations, or individual interactions.

In healthcare, Reson8’s ASR can identify drug names, clinical jargon, and terminology across all medical specialties. In the legal sector, it adapts to firm-specific language, contractual terms, and jurisdiction-specific vocabulary. For customer support, it adjusts to product names, technical terms, and brand-specific language.

Reson8 positions itself as a European alternative to US-centric speech providers by building and operating its own European infrastructure. This approach ensures data residency, ownership of the full stack, and compliance with European regulations and procurement standards.

Upon launch, Reson8 will support over 20 European languages, addressing the quality gap in non-English speech recognition.
