Still hoping to snag a Steam Controller after it sold out? You'll have to literally join a queue to get one

Steam Controller Sales Update: What You Need to Know

In recent news, the Steam Controller has had quite the eventful week. Upon its launch earlier this week without a console, it quickly sold out, surprising many with its popularity. This led to some individuals reselling the controllers on eBay at inflated prices, but fear not, as Valve has outlined a plan to address this issue and improve the purchasing experience going forward.

Valve expressed their gratitude for the high level of interest in the Steam Controller but acknowledged the frustration many faced when trying to purchase one. In response, they have announced changes to the buying process to combat reseller activity.

Beginning on May 8th at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm BST, Valve will open a reservation queue for the Steam Controller. By joining the queue, your place in line will be secured, and when stock becomes available, you will receive an email notification to proceed with the purchase. It is important to note that customers are limited to buying only one controller to prevent scalping. Additionally, customers have 72 hours from receiving the order email to complete the purchase. Failure to do so may result in losing the opportunity to buy the controller at that time.

To participate in the reservation queue, customers must have a good standing account and have made a purchase on Steam before April 27th, 2026. Valve is also planning to replenish inventory at varying rates across regions, with the US/Canada and UK/EU/AU regions being the initial focus for fulfillment.

For those eager to get their hands on a Steam Controller, the process may require patience and adherence to the guidelines set forth by Valve. The company is taking steps to ensure a fair and efficient distribution of the controllers to genuine customers.
